ok, i have produced some logos, so many more when i was younger... but now i am developing business and marketing plans and i just wish i had someone who could do logos for me.. how do i hire and work with a logo designer? example, i manage the crafty vixens tribe here and have started to brand it. i just popped together a logo so i could start branding the tribe, but now i want to take it bigger and need a better logo.... how do i even begin when i have no ideas about where the logo should go, and i can't afford to hire someone to produce a gazillion ideas...

Re: logo design/brand study
Tue, November 22, 2005 - 12:55 PMGreetings!
As a design professional who deals with branding on a daily basis you may find the following suggestions helpful.
1) Hiring a designer or branding consultant should not be expensive. You can do most of the legwork that they will do by having a strong business plan, marketing plan and branding plan in place before approaching the designers. Most designers build in additional cost due to the fact that many business owners and entrepreneurs do not effectively develop the business model before approach.
2) You will benefit the most (and spend the least) by doing your own marketing studies. Be sure to compile a lot of consumer study data to determine if your assessment of your brand positioning and marketing plan are in line with the consumers point of view.
3) look out a designer who is looking to build their exposure among business owners. Become their personal evangelist and you would be surprised by how little you will have to spend with them.
Hope some of these tips help. Let me know if you have any other questions or would like to open a more exhaustive discussion.
