Re: Anyone here listen to DESIGN MATTERS D.Millman?
Wed, April 19, 2006 - 9:31 AMto be quite frank, no, not all of the interviwes are worth it, but since they are podcast, it is very easy to skim to the meat in some. The more interesting are the ones with the non-designers, such as ucltural anthropologist Grant McCracken,,,
having scanned your profile and seen your interest on art film, you might enjoy Curtis Hillman's take on interactivity and cinematic space. He also makes films. Not revolutionary, but he points at relevant structuralist points of view which I think are worth discussing.
And there are a few others. Granted most interviews with cellebrity designers can be self fawning and not informative at all. All interviews are prefaced by a monologue on Millman's tribulations and personal diary which to some, can be on the egocentric side, but some are entertaining, nevertheless. For whatever it's woth she is eloquent and does bring foreign (interdisciplinary) perspectives to the usualy insular design discourse. -

Re: Anyone here listen to DESIGN MATTERS D.Millman?
Wed, April 19, 2006 - 2:31 PMI would if I had a need for her to know. I'm more interested in other designers opinions on the topics she covers. Unfortunately the only callers she get are people who personally know her of know any of her interview subjects (as in people, not topics).
Also, few callers are trully well read on branding or critical theory applicable to branding to make informed and compelling questions...
once, there was a gal grom SoCal who called in and asked the interviewee what her favorite color was.... there was a brief silence... I doubt she realized how off she came off.
So, Im hoping, perhaps this tribe community has a more substantial critical mass on the topic of 'brandind'... perhaps many here have at least read "The Brand Gap", or some semiology, or "NO LOGO" or something.... aside brom HOW magazine :D -

Thu, April 20, 2006 - 10:04 PMperhaps giving her market feedback will stimulate her towards refining her pod-cast to a more valuable content source for you. -

Re: Anyone here listen to DESIGN MATTERS D.Millman?
Fri, April 21, 2006 - 12:29 AMI think what is really needed is more critical mass from the part of the design community. last fridays program was right on the money on this. -
